NAMIBIA NATIONAL TEACHERS ’ UNION (NANTU)

Formed 11th March 1989 at A. Shipena Secondary School in Katutura , Windhoek .
The First President of NANTU was Cde . Marco Hausiku who occupied the following ministerial positions in the Government of the Republic of Namibia.

  • Minister of L ands , Resettlement and Rehabilitation (1990 – 1992)
  • Minister of Works , Transport and Communication (1992 – 1995)
  • Minister of Prisons and Correctional Services (1995 – 27 August 2002)
  • Minister of Labour (27 August 2002 – 27 May 2004)
  • Minister of Foreign Affairs (27 May 2004 – 21 March 2010)
  • 2015 – retired

OUR VISION

NANTU envisages a quality education system to which all Namibians have equal access, derive benefit from and which functions in educational policy and regulatory environment in which the teachers can develop their full potential and perform and deliver to a maximum in the interest of the personal and professional advancement and growth of all Namibia.

MISSION STATEMENT

NANTU is a national democratic, autonomous, non-sexist, non-racial teachers’ union catering for the professional, social and economic needs of its members and influencing and enhancing the education system.

THE EMBLEM

THE EMBLEM OF NANTU CONSISTS OF:

  • A map of the Republic of Namibia , indicating that NANTU is a genuine Union
    for all Namibian Teachers .
  • A circle of individuals holding hands, portrays the unity of teachers and
    illustrates the solidarity among the union members; in the middle of the circle is
  • A book and a triangle: the book stresses the importance of the teaching–learning
    process as the centre of the union’s operation, and the triangle seeks to
    explain the significance of the teacher, parent and student relationship in a
    successful education process.

THE BANNER

The official NANTU banner consists of three colours in diagonal position:

 Navy Blue represent the dignified nature of the Teaching Profession.

   Gold represent the preciousness of education per se.

   White represent the nobleness of the Teaching and Learning Process.
